Webinar Pengabdian Seri 1: Cermati Masalah Kulit dan Rangkap yang Benar dari Penggunaan Masker
Sebagai bagian dari upaya untuk mendukung protokol kesehatan dan menjaga lingkungan sekitar, Program Studi (Prodi) Rekayasa Tekstil UII menyelenggarakan Webinar Pengabdian Seri 1 dengan tema “Efektivitas Penggunaan Masker di Masa Pandemi Covid-19”. Acara yang diikuti sedikitnya 100 peserta ini berlangsung Sabtu (14/08/21) melalui Zoom Meeting dan YouTube Live Streaming. Bertindak sebagai narasumber adalah Ir. Agus Taufiq, M.Sc. dan Ahmad Satria Budiman, S.T., M.Sc., keduanya merupakan dosen di Prodi Rekayasa Tekstil UII.
Sebagaimana diketahui, Pandemi Covid-19 membawa berbagai dampak bagi kehidupan kita. Mulai dari banyaknya kegiatan yang dibatalkan, ruang gerak masyarakat yang terbatas, aktivitas ekonomi yang sepi sehingga menurunkan pendapatan masyarakat, sejumlah tes kesehatan sebagai persyaratan kegiatan tertentu, hingga perkembangan varian virus. Namun di satu sisi, tumbuh rasa peduli dan saling bantu di tengah masyarakat, serta kesadaran untuk menerapkan pola hidup bersih dan sehat. Memakai masker merupakan salah satunya.
Ada tiga masalah utama pada kulit yang diakibatkan oleh pemakaian masker, yaitu timbulnya jerawat, rasa gatal pada wajah, serta munculnya ruam pada wajah. Hal ini dikarenakan panas dan lembab di daerah kulit yang tertutupi masker. Permasalahan tersebut dapat dicegah dengan lima langkah sederhana, yaitu memilih bahan masker yang tidak menyebabkan iritasi, mencuci wajah sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan masker, tidak memakai make up secara berlebihan, mengganti atau mencuci masker pada waktunya, dan menggunakan pelembab secara rutin.
“Misalnya masker yang terbuat dari bahan cotton (kapas), karena serat kapas memiliki komponen terbesar selulosa rantai panjang dengan sifat fisik yang lebih kuat dan tahan lama terhadap degradasi dari panas, bahan kimia, dan pengaruh biologis. Selain itu tidak mudah larut dalam air, alkali, ataupun pelarut organik, serta dalam keadaan kering bersifat higroskopis yaitu mudah menyerap uap air sehingga akan bersifat lunak,” terang Ir. Agus Taufiq, M.Sc., selaku narasumber pertama. Penggunaan masker yang sehat dan ideal perlu diganti setiap 4 jam.
Sementara itu, jenis-jenis masker yang beredar antara lain masker medis/masker bedah, masker kain, masker scuba (tidak disarankan karena efektivitas sekitar 5%), masker KF94, masker N95, dan masker KN95. Masyarakat dianjurkan untuk menggunakan masker dua rangkap dimana penggunaan yang tepat adalah dengan melapiskan masker kain di atas masker bedah. Tujuan utamanya ada dua, yaitu meningkatkan daya filtrasi sampai 85-90% dan meminimalkan celah udara. Celah di pipi wajah dari masker bedah dapat lebih ditutup dengan masker kain.
“Di samping itu, ada beberapa hal yang harus (do’s) dan tidak boleh dilakukan (don’ts). Masker harus menutup hidung, menutup mulut dan dagu, serta tidak membuat kita kesulitan bernapas. Kemudian masker dua rangkap bukan artinya masker bedah dan masker bedah, bukan masker KN95 dan masker bedah, tidak disarankan masker dengan katup udara karena bisa jadi celah masuknya virus,” sambung Ahmad Satria Budiman, S.T., M.Sc., selaku narasumber kedua. Senada sebelumnya, masker perlu diganti atau dicuci pada waktunya. (ASB)
